Amanda privacy policy
Last updated: September 13, 2026
Amanda is a Chrome extension that answers questions about text you select on a web page. This policy explains what it sends, what is kept, and who else sees it.
What is sent when you use it
Nothing is sent until you pick an action. When you do, the extension sends:
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The text you selected | Every action | It is what the model works on |
| A screenshot of the region you drag | Only the screenshot action | It is what the model looks at |
| The page title and URL | Every action | Context, so answers fit the page you are on |
| An anonymous installation identifier | Every request | Counts your daily allowance and identifies your plan |
| Your email address | Only if you sign in | Carries a subscription across browsers |
The extension does not read pages in the background, and it has no access to a page until you select something and choose an action.
What is stored
The Amanda server stores only what a subscription needs:
- Your account: an identifier, your email if you gave one, your plan and its expiry
- Which installations belong to that account
- How many requests you made on each day
- Your payment provider's customer and subscription identifiers
Selected text, screenshots, page titles, page URLs and the answers are not stored. They pass through the server to generate an answer and are not written to its database.
Your settings — theme, target language, pinned actions — stay in your browser profile. So does your session token.
In a tab the extension cannot work inside (one opened before it was installed), a screenshot captures the visible part of the tab and shows it in an Amanda tab, where you drag the region to ask about. That picture is kept in the browser's memory, never written to disk, and is replaced by your next capture or cleared when the browser closes. Only the region you drag is sent.
PDFs open in Amanda's own PDF viewer, since Chrome's viewer does not let extensions see what you select. To do that the extension notices when a tab is loading a PDF (from the type the site gives it) and your browser loads the PDF into the viewer. The PDF is not sent to the Amanda server; as on any page, only text you select and act on is. You can turn the viewer off in Amanda's settings.
Who else sees it
- Microsoft Azure hosts the Amanda server and its database, in the United States.
- Microsoft Azure OpenAI generates the answers, so your selection, screenshot and page context are sent there. Microsoft processes it under its own terms and may retain content briefly for abuse monitoring.
- Microsoft Azure Communication Services delivers the sign-in code if you sign in with email, so your email address and that code are sent there. Nothing else about you goes with it.
- Stripe handles payments if you subscribe. Card details go to Stripe directly and never reach the Amanda server.
Your data is not sold, rented, or used for advertising or model training.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling removes everything stored in your browser. To delete the account and its usage records on the server, write to the address below and they will be removed.
